  • Backlog Status: Approximately 20 sheets in Genevieve’s possession plus ~100 samples need to be delivered to campus
  • Scanning Workflow: Brianna will take over scanning responsibilities from Nora
  • Coordinate Addition: Critical issue identified - coordinates from Survey123 must be manually added to sheets before scanning
  • Training: Nora will provide instructions to Brianna showing coordinate locations in Survey123

48.3.2 Survey123 Data Entry Progress

  • 2024 Data: 59 pedons still need entry (25 not started, 7 on hold, 16 in progress, 9 ready for export)
  • Processing Time: 1.5-2 hours per sheet depending on complexity (redox, carbonate content)
  • Artifact Data Issues: Ongoing troubleshooting with NASIS database - artifact volume data not transferring properly from Survey123

48.3.3 Technical Issues with Artifact Data

  • Problem identified where artifact percentages appear in comments rather than volume columns
  • Patty Burns working with John Hammerly (NASAIS expert) to resolve transfer issues
  • Recommendation: Ensure artifact volume percentages are in correct column, minimize special characters in notes

48.4 Laboratory Operations

48.4.1 Current Lab Priorities

  • Sieving: ~400 samples remaining from 2024

  • Laser Particle Size Analyzer: Currently offline due to laser shutter issue, repair expected by end of July

48.5 Safety and Sample Handling

48.5.1 Glass in Samples

  • Safety Protocol: Label bags containing glass fragments to prevent injury
  • Field Protocol: Remove large glass pieces when possible, include small fragments when representative
  • Lab Processing: Ava will separate obvious artifacts when weighing washed course fragments
  • Documentation: Note glass presence on artifact sheets and consider adding to regular description sheets

48.6 Opportunities and Outreach

48.6.1 Construction Site Sampling

  • Opportunistic Sampling: Renewed emphasis on identifying construction sites for rapid response sampling
  • Survey System: Existing Survey123 form for reporting potential sites
  • Communication Protocol: Must text/message team leaders immediately when sites are submitted (survey notifications don’t automatically alert)
  • Timeline: Critical to respond within 2-3 days before opportunities are lost
  • Access Strategy: Contact foremen after 3PM when workers have left, avoid corporate numbers when possible

48.6.2 Community Engagement Events

  • V-Fest: Saturday, July 26th at Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Rondo (noon-6 PM)
