32.1 Field Work Planning & Updates

32.1.1 Next Two Weeks Schedule

  1. Week of September 12
    • Thursday afternoon (Sept 12):
      • Nora and Adam to sample at Marydale Park
      • Planning 2 profile descriptions out of 4 proposed sites
      • Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  2. Week of September 16
    • Wednesday and Thursday (Sept 18-19):
      • Adam and Patty to sample at Swede Hollow
      • Nora may join Thursday afternoon
      • 3 primary sampling points identified with 2 backup locations
      • Gopher One tickets to be submitted by Nora

32.1.2 Sweet Hollow Site Details

  • Location: Near downtown St. Paul, adjacent to Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary
  • Site characteristics:
    • Previously sampled in 2022 for depth-based incremental sampling
    • Known for high lead concentrations
    • Contains artifacts and course fragments
    • May have auger refusal issues around 50cm depth
    • Team advised to bring shovels and additional equipment
  • Important note: Team should avoid Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary and Indian Mounds Regional Park due to cultural significance and burial sites (not included on permit)

32.1.3 Week of September 23

  • Nora will be in Kansas for soil judging contest
  • Patty will be up north for appointments
  • Adam and Kasia to coordinate field work independently
  • Regular Tuesday meeting (Sept 24) likely canceled

32.2 Administrative Updates

32.2.1 Field Work Coordination

  1. Planning Strategy
    • Aim to maintain 2-3 weeks of advance planning
    • Adam and Kasia to coordinate teams through shared Google Calendar
    • Patty to be contacted directly for availability
  2. Documentation
    • Detailed site documents created for each location including:
      • Sampling points
      • Parking information
      • Navigation notes
      • Site-specific considerations
    • Documents serve dual purpose for team use and permit applications
  3. Gopher One Tickets
    • Currently handled by Nora
    • Plan to train Adam on submission process during Sept 12 field work
    • Timing considerations for flag placement and removal

32.3 Project Updates

32.3.1 NRCS Updates

  • Patty working on:
    • NASA’s project review with Randy, Dan, and Joe
    • Preparing to enter DSP into NASA
    • Awaiting Randy’s trip report for documentation

32.3.2 Schedule Notes

  • Regular Tuesday meetings moved to 10:30 AM
  • Team adjusting to new meeting time
  • Flexibility needed for scheduling around field work and other commitments
