31.2 Key Updates and Decisions

31.2.1 Permitting Status

  1. City of St. Paul Parks
    • Permit received and approved through end of October
    • Sampling locations have been identified
    • Pig’s Eye Park excluded from current permit due to:
      • Former landfill/battery dump site with 2-foot topsoil cap
      • Pending PCA (Pollution Control Agency) approval
      • Team agreed to attempt mapping even if sampling isn’t possible
  2. Roseville Permit
    • Email approval received from superintendent Jim Taylor
    • Awaiting formal permit documentation
    • Will proceed with St. Paul parks first
  3. Maplewood Permit
    • Decision made to postpone until next year
    • Focus will be on St. Paul and Roseville sites for fall
    • Additional focus on residential sites

31.2.2 Field Work Planning

  1. Immediate Plans
    • September 12th: Adam and Nora to conduct sampling at one St. Paul park
    • September 16-20th: Patty available for field work
    • Week of September 23rd: Kasia returns, available Friday only
    • Preference to avoid Monday field work when possible
  2. Coordination Structure
    • Adam and Kasia to serve as primary coordinators
    • Will set dates and then communicate with broader NRCS team
    • Joe to assist with recruiting additional NRCS staff
    • Team members to update Google Calendar with availability
    • Two-person minimum for field work when possible
  3. Weekend Work
    • Some team members available for occasional Saturday morning work
    • NRCS staff require special permission for weekend work
    • Will be coordinated on case-by-case basis

31.2.3 Administrative Procedures

  1. Sample Management
    • NRCS team can store samples at their office temporarily
    • Samples to be transferred to Jelinski lab periodically; all samples eventually housed at Jelinski lab
    • Team to coordinate sample transfer schedule
  2. Documentation
    • Profile description sheets to be scanned and entered into Google Drive
    • Photos and videos uploaded to Google Drive
    • Survey123 access being arranged for Adam and Kasia
    • Sampling number scheme to be tracked via group message
  3. Gopher One Tickets
    • Current process: Nora submitting tickets
    • Plan to train Adam and Kasia on submission process
    • Timing consideration: Not too far in advance due to flag removal issues
    • Agreement to maintain 2-week advance planning when possible

31.2.4 Project Documentation

  1. Project Repositories
    • Two separate repositories maintained:
      • Public-facing project metadata
      • Internal meeting minutes
    • Randy’s field review report to be added when finalized
    • Initial field review documentation pending
  2. Residential Sites Initiative
    • High priority for NRCS team
    • Flyer being updated to combine existing materials
    • Joe ready to distribute to interested parties
    • Strong interest noted from State Fair attendees

31.2.5 Weekly Meetings

  1. Schedule
    • Continuing Tuesday meetings with Patty
    • Time: After 10:30 AM (following Nora’s class)
    • Adam and Kasia welcome to join when available
    • Week of September 23rd meeting cancelled (Nora at soil judging competition)

    • Send Zoom link for Tuesday meetings to team

    • Connect with Joe regarding additional NRCS staff availability
